Workshop in SOUSSE, Tunisia 23.-29. February 2020

The first symposium for mosaics took place from February 23-29, 2020 in Sousse, Tunisia

The forecourt of the very attractive archaeological museum, situated in an old fortress of Sousse, had been our open air workshop.

45 artists from 27 nations had been invited to create a peace mosaic, for which marble and natural stone had been made available and the artists could also work with material of their own.

The finished art work was intended to remain in situ and to be shown in local schools to render evidence of the manifold forms of expression of mosaic today since the emotional attachment to tradition still is fairly considerable.

Antique mosaics of excellent quality, in particular some dating back to the 3rd century AD, are exposed in the basement of the fortress, cherished testimony of a glorious past.
